Random Joke Generator

Pick a category, hit the button, get a joke. Over 120 clean jokes built into the page — no API, no signup, and no repeats until you have worked through the whole category.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

What this tool does

This is a joke generator with the jokes actually in it. The whole set — just over 120 of them, sorted into eight categories — ships inside the page's own JavaScript file rather than being fetched from an API. That means it is instant, it works with no connection at all once the page has loaded, and nobody's server logs what you laughed at.

The honest limitation is the one that makes it usable anywhere: everything here is clean. There is no profanity, no adult material and no jokes that land on a group of people. If you want edgier material, this is deliberately not the tool for it — and the "dark humour" generator on this site keeps the same line, just with a gloomier outlook.

How to use it

  1. Choose a category, or leave it on "Anything" to draw from the full set.
  2. Optionally set the length — quick one-liners, story-length setups, or either.
  3. Press Tell me a joke. Press it again for another one; repeats are held back until the category is exhausted.
  4. Use Copy to put the joke on your clipboard, ready to paste into a message.

Common use cases

  • Breaking the ice

A quick opener for a group chat, a standup or a first message that needs to not be awkward.

  • Filling a caption

Something to put under a photo or a post when the picture is funnier than anything you were going to write.

  • Kids' entertainment

The set is deliberately clean, so it is safe to hand a phone or tablet to a child and let them keep pressing the button.

  • Killing a quiet moment

Waiting rooms, queues and loading screens — it works offline, so a dead connection is not a problem.

Frequently asked questions

How many jokes does the generator have?

The built-in set holds just over 120 jokes split across eight categories. Every joke ships with the page, so the generator works offline once the page has loaded.

Will I see the same joke twice?

Not until you have seen them all. The generator draws from a shuffled bag, so every joke in the selected category appears once before any of them repeats.

Is this safe to use around children?

Yes. Every joke in the set is clean — no profanity, no adult themes and no jokes that target a group of people. If you want edgier material, this is deliberately not the tool for it.

Does it send anything to a server?

No. The jokes are embedded in the page's own JavaScript rather than fetched from an API, so picking a category and reading a joke makes no network request at all.
