Meta Tag Generator

Fill in the form below and copy a complete, correctly escaped HTML <head> block — title, description, robots, canonical, keywords, author and theme colour — without hand-writing the markup or guessing which tags search engines still read.

Aim for 50–60 characters so it does not truncate in search results.

Aim for 120–160 characters.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

What this tool does

This generator turns a short form into the block of tags that belongs between <head> and </head>. It writes the tags in the order browsers and crawlers expect, escapes quotes and ampersands in your copy so a stray apostrophe cannot break the markup, and omits any tag you leave blank rather than emitting empty ones.

Every value is escaped and assembled in your browser — nothing is posted anywhere — so it is safe for unreleased page titles and client URLs. The honest limitation: this writes the tags, it does not audit a live page, and it deliberately does not generate Open Graph or Twitter Card tags. Those are separate generators, because the copy that works on a Google result page is rarely the copy that works as a social share card.

How to use it

  1. Type the page title as you want it to appear in a Google result. The counter under the field turns amber past 60 characters and rose past 70, which is roughly where the snippet truncates.
  2. Write the meta description as ad copy — it does not affect ranking, but it is what convinces someone to click. Stay inside 120–160 characters.
  3. Paste the canonical URL. This is the one URL you want indexed when the same page is reachable at several addresses.
  4. Set Robots to noindex for staging, thank-you and internal pages, and leave it on index, follow for everything you want found.
  5. Click Generate Meta Tags, then Copy and paste the block into your template or CMS head section.

Common use cases

  • Shipping a landing page

Get the head block right in one pass instead of copy-pasting tags from an old project and forgetting the canonical.

  • Keeping staging out of Google

Generate a noindex, nofollow block for a preview or staging environment in a few seconds.

  • Auditing a client site

Reconstruct the tags a page should have, then diff them against what is actually live to find what is missing.

  • Non-English sites

Set the correct language code so browsers, screen readers and translation tools treat the page as the language it is written in.

Frequently asked questions

Which meta tags actually matter in 2026?

Title and description are what Google renders in a result snippet, so they matter most. viewport and charset are required for the page to render correctly on mobile. canonical prevents duplicate-content problems. The keywords tag has been ignored by Google for over a decade — it is included here only because some internal search tools and CMS platforms still read it.

Does the meta description affect my Google ranking?

Not directly. Google has confirmed the description is not a ranking factor. It does affect click-through rate, because it is the sales copy under your headline in search results — and Google will often rewrite it from page content when it thinks it can do better. Treat it as ad copy rather than a ranking lever, and write it for a human deciding which of ten blue links to open.

Is this meta tag generator safe for client work?

Yes. The generator runs entirely in your browser — nothing you type is sent to a server, logged, or stored. That makes it safe for unreleased page titles, client URLs and campaign copy. The only caveat is that it generates the tags rather than installing them: you still paste the block into your own template or CMS head, and you are responsible for making sure it is not duplicated by a plugin that already emits the same tags.
